Checking In With Style: A Wagoneer's Second Act

January 1, 2025

As the multi-talented hotelier, brand strategist, and proud owner of The Ozarker Lodge's head-turning Jeep Wagoneer, Jeremy Wells has a unique perspective on automotive passion. Join us as we dive into his world through his thoughtful answers to our Quick Drive questions.

What made a Wagoneer catch your eye?

The Wagoneer, to me, represents everything great about the Great-American Family Roadtrip. It represents hitting the open road, going fishing, and adventuring into the great outdoors. It has a timeless beauty and charm. All of these characteristics related closely to the hotel concept we were creating, and we thought the Wagoneer should be our mascot of sorts.

Walk us through the transformation process.
How much elbow grease went into making this Wagoneer shine?

I purchased the Wagoneer from a gentleman in Northern Arkansas, it was in surprisingly good condition. Needed some obvious cosmetic work, but it ran just fine for the age. I mostly focused on the cosmetic improvements, because we didn't plan on putting too many miles on it once parked at the hotel. I did the entire restoration myself, excluding the application of the wood-grain vinyl and trim. It was pretty straight-forward: I cleaned it up inside and out, purchased new white-wall tires, sanded/primed/painted it in my garage, and then had my friend install the vinyl/trim. I'm certainly no professional, so don't look too closely!

How does it feel seeing this beauty parked out front, greeting guests as they arrive?

It's great. It's one of our most photographed elements of the hotel. Folks take selfies in front of it, post it all over Instagram. We get so many compliments on it, and it makes me happy knowing that the extra time and effort I put into paid off so well.

If you could take your Wagoneer on a the ultimate road trip, where would you go and why?

I'd journey to the northeastern states in the fall; see the Smokies and Catskills, Adirondack State Park, all the way to the coasts of Maine. See all the historical sites and attractions along the way

In your eyes, what makes this Wagoneer the perfect ambassador for The Ozarker?

It perfectly captures the nostalgia and joy of a family roadtrip; which is exactly what we hope to accomplish at The Ozarker Lodge.

Whether you're a gearhead looking to swap restoration stories or a traveler seeking a dose of nostalgia, The Ozarker Lodge promises an unforgettable experience. Why not plan your own adventure and see Jeremy's handiwork up close? Book a stay, snap a selfie with the Wagoneer, and become part of the story. Your perfect road trip awaits at The Ozarker Lodge.

Sometimes the best stories start with three hundred dollars and a dream. When Jeff bought his brother's '68 Mustang Fastback in 1978, he wasn't just buying transport—he was investing in a legacy that would span nearly five decades, weather years of neglect, and emerge stronger through the dedication of family.

The autumn air whispers through the open windows of Jono’s ‘67 Chevelle as it cruises down Main Street, the candy paint catching every reflection from the street lamps above. There’s something different about these night drives—when the roads empty out and the only sound is the steady thrum of American muscle beneath the hood.

Some things in life are earned. Nick's journey from sprint car pits to a British Racing Green Spitfire tells a story familiar to many enthusiasts—one where the imperfect machine becomes the perfect teacher. His daily driver may be small in stature, but it carries the weight of automotive history in every mile, reminding us that true passion isn't measured in horsepower, but in the willingness to preserve what matters.
